The beautiful neighborhood of Silver Spur is known for its ‘Grand-views’ as the neighborhood is commonly called. Locals here savor gorgeous vistas of downtown Los Angeles, the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean from many homes. This area consists of property mostly in Rancho Palos Verdes but a slice of Rolling Hills Estates as well. Certain areas of this sub-market are also undoubtedly convenient being walking distance to several schools and nearby to the great shopping at the Peninsula Center. Thus, making Silver Spur yet another great community on The Hill. Homes here come in a variety of styles like Ranch, Traditional, and Mediterranean, many of which were built in the 1950s. This area has large tracts of single-family homes, and some like along Montemalaga Drive and Silver Spur Road come with amazing views. These residences are between 1,300 to 3,200 square feet on average with large 7,000 to 13,000 square foot lots; therefore, many homes have sizable front and back yards, and even swimming pools for enjoying the dreamy SoCal sunshine year round. There are many affordable housing options in the neighborhood’s different communities. The median price for a single-family home is about $1,200,000. On average, the price range here is about $900,000 to $1,650,000, although homes with the best views, like Bayridge Road, can command well over $3 million. While parks and wide open spaces are aplenty on The Hill, a rural park nestled in the Silver Spur neighborhood is called Grandview Park. The eighteen-acre park is still in the development stage, but it does have a pathway leading uphill to the view of the ocean and provides plenty green space for locals to exercise, relax or picnic. On clear days, one can find excellent views of the Queen’s Necklace and downtown Los Angeles. In the spring if you are lucky, sometimes you will see goats grazing on the park hillside as the city hires goat herders to keep the brush down in the summer! Students in this area attend schools run by the highly rated Palos Verdes Peninsula School District. Kids attend Silver Spur or Montemalaga Elementary, Palos Verdes Intermediate School, and high school students choose between Palos Verdes Peninsula High School or Palos Verdes High School. Two of the schools, Silver Spur Elementary School and Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, are both walking distance from this neighborhood. Here, the locals use the elementary school playground for small children to play. Likewise, these fields are utilized for soccer practice and games. Also, the tennis courts and swimming pool at the high schools can be used when school is not in sessions.
